Friday afternoon a group of North Texas football players will embark on perhaps their biggest challenge yet.....Not a 300-pound lineman, a crossing pattern over the middle, or even a game-winning field goal in the last seconds. No it's this.
Brandon Akpunku, Riley Dodge, Kelvin Jackson, and Craig Robertson will belly up and as a team attempt to eat the 64oz chicken fried steak (the world's largest), six pounds of mashed potatoes, and a mere 10 slices of texas toast.
It's all for a new TV show that will air in the fall on the Food Network. How did North Texas get chosen? Well it's a long and round-about story of luck, chance, and the right place, right time, and right PR firm. (For compliance reasons, I'm not going to tell you the name of the show, but it rhymes with Heat and a word Dan Quayle couldn't spell.)
Since letting them know about this challenge, all four players have expressed to me supreme confidence in their abilities to polish this little challenge down. Craig has said AK is the biggest and best eater on the team, which is good, he needs a few more lbs.. What I haven't told them is nobody has ever finished it, and that includes seven TCU football players who tried in February.
Should be fun, but please, nobody tell Charr what these four guys had for dinner Friday night.
