No. 52- Fouts Field Opens Its Doors
A emorable year and a time for a celebration in Denton. North Texas opened Fouts Field in 1952 at a cost of just under 1 million dollars. The Mean Green began the Fouts Field era in style as they crushed North Dakota 55-0 in the first game of the new facility.
Named for the legendary Coach Theron J. Fouts who oversaw the design and construction of the stadium, the 55-0 win is still the fourth largest margin of victory in Fouts Field history.
Running back Ken Bahnsen scored the first ever touchdown in Fouts Field history against North Dakota. The largest crowd to ever see at game at Fouts Field was September 6, 2003 against Baylor when 29,437 were in attendance.
At the time of its opening, Fouts Field original capacity was 20,000, later expanded to 30,500 in 1994.
