No. 25- Conference Titles
North Texas won eight of its last nine games in 1931 to win the Texas Intercollegiate Athletic Association, and has gone on to win 24 more conference crowns since, winning one, about once every three years since.
Jack Sisco, who led North Texas to the '31 TIAA crown, rattled off titles in the Lone Star Conference after that, winning in 1932, 1935, 1936, and three in a row in 1939, 1940 and 1941.
North Texas went on a run of conference titles in the Odus Mitchell era, starting with the 1946 and 1947 Lone Star Conference crowns. Mitchell won Gulf Coast Conference championships or co-championships in 1950, 1951, 1952, 1955, and 1956. By 1958, North Texas had upgraded leagues, and Mitchell took home back-to-back Missouri Valley crowns in 1958 and 1959 and a third in 1966. Rod Rust went back-to-back in 1967 with a second straight crown.
Hayden Fry won a single Missouri Valley crown, in 1973, but much of his time at North Texas was spent as an independent. Corky Nelson led the Mean Green to the 1983 Southland title, and Matt Simon picked up an SLC title of his own in 1994.
Of course, Darrell Dickey won four straight Sun Belt titles from 2001 to 2004, winning 26 straight Sun Bel games in the process. In all, North Texas has defended a conference crown an astounding 15 times since it's first championship campaign in 1931, and has won three in a row twice (1939-41, 1950-52) and four in a row once more (2001-04).
