No. 34- Ja'Quay Wilburn Leads The Way
The school's third all-time leading rusher with 3,120 yards amassed, paved the way for a New Orleans Bowl MVP in Kevin Galbreath and not one but two national rushing champs in Patrick Cobbs and Jamario Thomas.
Ja'Quay Wilburn began what is arguably the best period for running backs at North Texas. His playing years, which ranged from 1997-2000, saw two wins a piece over Texas Tech and Boise State.
Wilburn is the only running back in history to lead the Mean Green in rushing all four years of his career. That's right, it's not Cobbs or Thomas and lance Dunbar doesn't even have a chance to match it, Wilburn is the only one ever.
Looking at the record book, Ja'Quay's name is everywhere. He sits 3rd all-time in rushing attempts, T-1st with Thomas in most rushing attempts in a game when he ran the ball 41 times against New Mexico St. in 2000, he holds the 10th most rushing yards in a game at 223 yards and the 8th longest rush in school history when he scampered 81 yards against Texas Tech to set up a TD to give North Texas a lead it would never relinquish.
Wilburn has 12 100-yard rushing games to his name as well.
