No. 5 - Five Straight 200 Yard Rushing Games
The 2004 season saw returning starting running back and national rushing champion Patrick Cobbs exit early due to injury, leaving only a true freshman to fill his shoes.
Little did the mean Green nation know, Jamario Thomas would construct one of the best freshman seasons in history, amassing over 1,800 yards in only 10 games on his way to a national rushing crown himself.
The five game stretch from Utah State to Idaho, where he collected 200-plus yard outings each week, helped push Thomas over the top.
The first game of this marvelous streak came against Utah State. The Mean green won the game on the shoulders of Jamario, who rushed the ball 38 times for 256 yards and a score. The next week, New Mexico State got a steady dose of Thomas, as he garnered 33 carries for 258 yards and another TD.
The third game of the stretch came against ULM, where his production dropped to an astounding 41 carries for 218 yards, but three touchdowns. Thomas squeaked out 200 yards against Louisiana-Lafayette the next week with 203 yards on 36 carries and two scores.
The final game of the streak still stands as the most yards gained in a single game by a North Texas running back when he hung a 28 carry 291 yard performance on Idaho in which he took four to the house.
So, in the five week span from Oct. 9 to Nov. 13, 2004, Jamario Thomas Racked up 1,226 yards and 11 touchdowns, a run that will live on forever in the North Texas record books
