Garrish Crushes Hammer Throw Record

WACO, Texas (3/22/13) - The Mean Green track & field teams completed its second meet of the season bringing home 29 top-five finishes from the Baylor Quad Invitational on Friday at the Hart-Patterson Track & Field Complex.

The women captured three first place finishes in Waco. Jo Adams took home first in the women's 800-meter dash while Haley Thompson jumped 5-05.00 feet to win first in the women's high jump.
Sarah Vann leapt to a first place finish with a 11-05.75 feet leap in the women' s pole vault. In her first appearance of 2013, Sarah Korn captured second with a 11-05.75 feet jump.
John Garrish blasted past the school hammer throw record besting the record by more 20 feet. Garrish threw 191-05 feet on his way to finishing second in the event. Aaron Sirles threw a personal-best 172-11 feet capturing third and Cody January threw 169-09 feet finishing fourth.
In his first outdoor meet of the season Derek Richard jumped 14-07.25 feet on his way to capturing his first collegiate win.
The men's distance runners' captured six top-five finishes for North Texas. Matt Russ placed second in the men's 800-meter run with a time of 1:53.57. Austin Yaeger (1:54.10) followed at third, Troy Taylor (1:54.80) at fourth and Bryce McAndrew (1:55.26) at fifth.
Silvester Harrison took home second in the men's 1500-meter run with a time of 4:01.35.
North Texas track & field returns to action with two meets in the next week. The Mean Green will travel to San Marcos for the Bobcat Invitational March 27-28 and to Austin for the prestigious Texas Relays March 28-30.
