Adams, Bareni Named SBC Athlete Of The Week

DENTON, Texas (4/25/13) – Jo Adams and Shahaf Bareni were named Sun Belt Conference Athlete of the Week for their efforts for the week of April 14-20, the conference announced on Wednesday.
Senior Jo Adams kicked off last week breaking her 1,500-meter run record by nearly three seconds with a time of 4:16.20 at the Mt. SAC Relays. Adams not only broke her school record but also broke the SBC season record. Adams currently stands in first in the SBC, second in the South Central region and 10th in the nation.
Just two days later, Adams ran a personal-best 800 meters in 2:07.29 to finish third at the Long Beach State Invitational. Adams stands in first in the SBC and seventh in the South Central region.
Junior Shahaf Bareni captured a first-place finish for the Mean Green at the Michael Johnson Dr. Pepper Classic last Saturday jumping an impressive 5-10.75 feet or 1.80 meters in the women’s high jump.
This was Bareni’s third top finish of the outdoor season. Bareni, who holds the school record, stands in first in the SBC, third in the South Central region as well as the top-20 in the nation in the high jump.
The North Texas track & field teams are currently competing at the 104th Annual Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, and the Red Raider Open in Lubbock, Texas.
