DENTON--North Texas track and field performed well at their third competition of the season, with many athletes finishing in the top four of their events.
Senior Deja McKnight had great success at Texas Tech, placing first in the women's weight throw with a t 16.18m throw. McKnight also placed second in shot put, with a 14.43m throw.
"Texas Tech gave us an opportunity to run some other events to see what some people could possibly do at the conference championships," said head coach Carl Sheffield. "Chastity Stewart and Chianne Lowe both narrowly missed school records in the 55 hurdles and 55m dash, respectively, and Deja McKnight continues to improve with a second place finish in the women's shot put."
Junior Ngozi Nweke placed second in the women's weight throw with a 16.02m throw. Chastity Stewart's 55m hurdle time of 7.92 seconds put her in second place, and Chianne Lowe's 55m dash time of 7.19 seconds earned her 11th place.
In addition, senior Shahaf Bareni placed second in high jump with a 1.71m jump, and junior Troy Taylor placed second in the 800m with a time of 1:52.36.
Troy Taylor's 800m time broke a school record, his first record at North Texas.
Junior Bryce McAndrew was right behind him with a fourth place 800m time of 1:52.65. Freshman Mike Lowe also had some success in the 3000m, placing fourth with a time of 8:46.91.
"It was good to be back competing after a week off. Our young kids needed the time to train and our seasoned returners needed to evaluate their first competition and prepare for February's main competition season," said Sheffield.
