Ricaud, whose father is a golf professional, is fresh off a major tournament victory after she won the Doral Publix Junior Golf Classic in Florida with a 73-71-144 - a five-shot advantage over her closest competitor. Just before that win, Ricaud finished 16th at the renowned Annika Invitational in Australia, and she also tied for fourth at the Mobil South Pacific Junior Championship.
Akers said one reason he was drawn to Ricaud's game was because of her upbringing by her golf-pro father and the way she handles herself on the course, especially in tough conditions.
"I like Emilie's demeanor on the golf course," he said. "She is level-headed and cool under pressure. She comes from an island in the South Pacific so will bring experience with playing in windy conditions, as well as other strengths. I like the fact that when she goes home for the holiday break her weather conditions will be in favor of her keeping her game in shape for the spring season."
Ricaud joins fellow 2019 signee Marija Jucmane, and the pair has Akers excited about the future of his program.
"With the additions of Emilie and Marija we are setting up for continued improvement and will become competitive nationally," Akers said. "The goal is to earn at-large berths to the NCAA tournament every year."
