Squire Ties School Record In 60-Meter Hurdles

LUBBOCK – Joseph Squire tied a North Texas program record in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.00 seconds for a fourth-place finish Friday at the Texas Tech Classic inside the Sports Performance Center.
"I'm really excited about our performances today," director of track and field Carl Sheffield said. "This is the second straight weekend we went up against some of the best in the nation."
"The highlight of Day One may have been Joseph Squire's fourth place finish in the men's 60-meter hurdles. I coached the school record holder Sammy Dabbs to 8.00, and Squire equaled that mark tonight. It's something we think he could break this year."
Alia Holmes was the top UNT performer in the 60-meter dash with a 7.48 in preliminaries. "Her time will be a top-three time. She's having a phenomenal beginning to the season."
Haley Walker vastly improved upon her personal best in the weight throw with a toss of 17.18 for a first place finish in the "B" group. "The women throwers are rounding into shape. Walker's personal best throw led the women tonight. Her throw will be a top three all-time performance."
Jacob Franks posted a collegiate best in the pole vault with his fourth place finish of 4.78 in the "B" section.
"Tomorrow the distance races will take center stage. Florian Lussy, Jack Beaumont, and Rea Iseli will compete in their first 3,000, this weekend. We are hoping for good results there."
The Mean Green conclude competition in the classic Saturday with field events beginning at 10 a.m. and the running starting at noon.
