Volleyball Travels To Face Charlotte, Marshall

CHARLOTTE – Mean Green volleyball travels to face Charlotte and Marshall after a 3-0 win over Southern Miss on Sunday. North Texas (10-7, 4-1) are currently 2-0 on the road in Conference USA play. Friday's match against Charlotte is set for a 5 p.m. start. Sunday's match against Marshall is set for an 11 a.m. start.
The Mean Green hold a three-match win streak over both Charlotte (11-10, 1-4) and Marshall (12-6, 3-2).
"We really managed our game," head coach Andrew Palileo said. "Our side of the net. That's what makes me excited about what we can do and continue to progress forward. Any time we can manage the ball the way we have the last three matches, positive things happen."
North Texas will need continued production from its outsides which was shown against Southern Miss. Barbara Teakell hit over .500 for the first time in 2019 picking up 11 kills. Rhett Robinson continued a run of 10+ kill matches, extending her streak to three consecutive matches with a team-leading 14 kills in the win over Southern Miss.
Kaliegh Skopal provided 40 assists.
"Kaliegh has made a lot of progress," Palileo said. "She's adjusting to how I coach the setters. She is being more proactive in helping her teammates instead of me stepping in. She's improved tremendously understanding our progressions and our offense."
The Mean Green and 49ers last faced off Oct. 7, 2018, a 3-2 win for the Mean Green in Denton. Valerie Valerian had 19 kills while Teakell added 17. Valerian led the team in kills in the last match against Marshall as well, a 3-0 Mean Green win in late Oct. 2018.
Valerian had 11 kills the last time Marshall and North Texas faced off. Palileo knows he will need kills from the middle as well in Miranda Youmans.
"Miranda has managed her playing time well," Palileo said. "You never know how they're going to react until they get into high leverage moments, and she's done a good job with it. I attribute that to her working hard and wanting to stay in the lineup."
