
Men 6th, Women 7th at Conference Championships

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. –  The North Texas cross country teams competed at the 2019 Conference USA Championships Saturday with the men finishing 6th as a team and the women finishing 7th.

Middle Tennessee took both the men's and women's team titles.

"It was tough day for the men, our bad luck continued," head coach Kevin Williams said. "We are relying on some young guys and we just have to continue to mature with time."

The Mean Green's highest finisher in the men's race was senior Florian Lussy who came in 8th with a time of 24:18.8, 26 seconds back from the individual champion Jacob Choge from Middle Tennessee.

Lussy was followed at the finish line by sophomore Caleb Bouchard (25th – 25:18.4), junior Matthew Morgan (38th – 25:54.4), and freshmen Braden Lange (42nd – 26:04.4) , Mason Garner (43rd – 26:06.2), Riley Wood (56th – 26:36.1) and Spencer Boykin (62nd – 26:49.1).

"The women ran tough and I am happy with how they performed," Williams added. "Aubrey Schmidt had a great performance today and our upperclassmen ran well."

Schmidt finished 22nd individually with a time of 18:15.5, the sophomore was followed at the finish line by graduate student Baylee Nelson (43rd – 18:49.2), junior Gwyneth Garcia (45th – 18:51.1), senior Jennifer White (50th – 18:59.4), freshman Erika Barrett (72nd – 19:35.6), senior Darrian Johnson (83rd – 10:03.7), and freshmen Laurynn Hogan (85th – 20:12.0), Arianna Gonzales (90th – 10:33.2) and Madelyn Taylor (93rd – 20:45.3).

North Texas will have two weeks to prep for the NCAA South Central Regional meet on November 15 in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

"Regionals will be a tough test for us, but we will continue to train and get better," Williams said.
