AUSTIN – Haley Walker broke a 16-year-old North Texas school record in the discus, and the men's 4x100-meter relay team placed seventh on the final day of the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays Saturday at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Walker's mark of 51.29 meters surpassed the record held by Jessica Henderson who registered a toss of 50.95 during the 2003 season. Walker improved upon her previous best of 50.08 set during last year's Conference USA Outdoor Championships.
The 4x100 relay team of Darien Porter, Davonye Jones, Antonio Delacruz and James Cole ran a season-best time of 39.96 seconds to earn a seventh-place finish among 41 teams at the meet.
Alia Holmes, Aneesa Scott, Lyric Choice and Cecily Edwards placed ninth in the 4x200 with a time of 1:38.76.
"Overall we had a really good meet," director of track and field Carl Sheffield said. "We competed well in all the events. After being disqualified for running out of the zone at Baylor Invitational last week, the men's 4x100 relay responded with an outstanding performance. It's good to see that fast of a time this early."
The Mean Green will debut the Soccer and Track & Field Stadium April 6 with the first UNT home meet since 2014. Field events begin at 10 a.m. A ribbon cutting will occur at 2:15 followed by running events at 2:30 p.m. Admission is free.
"I'm really looking forward to running at home next week. Our teams seem to be excited about showing off the new track. It will be good for our fans, students and our administration for the work they have put into this facility."
