North Texas Completes Classic In Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. – North Texas track and field concluded competition at the K.T. Woodman Classic Saturday at Cessna Stadium hosted by Wichita State.
"We didn't get much of a chance to work on some of the things we wanted to," director of track and field Carl Sheffield said. "The weather didn't help our cause in the jumps and sprints. Any opportunity to compete though, helps our team down the line."
Cody Bullard was the high finisher for the Mean Green with a runner-up result in pole vault at 4.81 meters. Abdon Campbell collected a pair of fifth place finishes in the 200-meter dash (21.93 seconds) and the 400 (50.74).
Denver Mims earned seventh place in long jump at 5.28 meters, and Kayla McDonald captured the same result in the 100-meter dash in a time of 25.55.
Chris Samaniego threw 14.82 meters in shot put for seventh place along with a personal best in the hammer at 44.77 for eighth. Isaac Huseman was a spot behind Samaniego in shot put with a throw of 14.35, while Kendall Maples was next with a personal record of 14.33. Ashlynn Smart threw 44.77 meters in the hammer for eighth place.
"We'll spend the next few days prepping for a big weekend in California. There should better conditions to put up some good marks for April. It's important that we do well over the next couple of weeks training in preparation for Conference USA," Sheffield said.
The Mean Green travel to California April 19 to compete in the Mt. Sac Relays and Beach Invitational.
