UNT Distance, Throwers Set Off California Tour

LONG BEACH, Calif. and AZUSA, Calif. – North Texas track and field opened their California swing at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate hosted by Long Beach State and the Bryan Clay Invitational hosted by Azusa Pacific Thursday.
Four Mean Green took part in the distance carnival at the Bryan Clay Invite as Jack Beaumont was the first UNT competitor and set a personal record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 9:25.89, and Cassidy Adams clocked an 11:22.20 in her steeplechase race. Florain Lussy finished the 5,000-meter run at 14:26.84, and Alex Cleveland ran a personal record of 14:54.55.
The North Texas throwing contingency spent the evening at the Pacific Coast meet. Haley Walker threw 48.78 meters in discus, while Jaleisa Shaffer threw 44.64. Shaffer also marked a 13.64 in shot put. Karl Sralla threw the discus 50.05 meters, and Ashlynn Smart tossed the hammer 51.79. Chris Samaniego and Kendal Maples threw the shot put 13.70 and 13.87 meters, respectively.
