Cox Notches Top-10 Finish At The Bruzzy

ARGYLE, Texas. – The North Texas women's golf team concluded play at The Bruzzy on Tuesday at Lantana Golf Club and finished at 36-over par after shooting a 900 over the three rounds.
UNT, the host team, shot a final-day 303 to wrap up play and was led, for the day, by senior Sabina Pena, who shot a team-best 74 on the final day of competition, followed by Lauren Cox's and Patricia Sinolungan's 75s.
Cox was the team's top finisher for the tournament, wrapping up the three rounds at 2-under par and tied for eighth place, thanks in large part to her program-record 66 on Monday. That score also tied two other golfers for the low round of the tournament.
"I am very happy with Lauren's performance this week," UNT coach Michael Akers said. "She showed up against a very strong field. A top-10 finish against this field is very impressive."
Akers said he was pleased with the tournament - the second annual event he has hosted.
"The tournament was a huge success," he said. "I take great pride in running events and having earned the reputation as hosting one of the top events in the county certainly makes me feel good."
UNT will begin postseason play at the Conference USA Championship April 15-17 at Verandah Golf Club in Fort Myers, Florida.

"Our team needs to reset and begin preparation for the C-USA tournament in Florida," Akers said. "We know the golf course and will simulate conditions and shots the best we can over the next few weeks."
