CHARLOTTE – North Texas track and field travels to the 2019 Air Force Reserve Conference USA Outdoor Championships May 9-12 hosted by Charlotte at the Irwin Belk Track and Field Center.
"We are in a pretty good place as a team at this point in the season," director of track and field
Carl Sheffield said. "This is the largest women's squad that we have taken to an outdoor championship, and we are looking for some quality performances in the men's side.
"Our teams have really matured from last year. We have set some pretty impressive marks and broken some big school records to this point. Their confidence has been increasing each week. They are still gaining championship experiences, but I feel like this is a very competitive bunch of young people."
The action began Thursday with the heptathlon and decathlon. Friday opens with the first field event of the meet, women's hammer, at 1 p.m. Multi-events continue Friday and the first running event, the women's 10,000-meter run, commences at 7 p.m.
Field events resume Saturday with the women's discus at 12 p.m. Running prelims begin with the women's 1,500-meter at 2:30 p.m., and the day concludes with the men's and women's 3,000-meter steeplechase, with the women starting at 6 p.m.
Action concludes Sunday with the remainder of the field events and running finals. The women's shot put starts at 12 p.m. and the men's 4x400-meter relay wraps up the meet at 6 p.m. with an awards ceremony to follow.
"Our women throwers seam to be our headliners. We have a strong contingent in each throwing event. Kristyn Archuleta is a former conference champ. Haley Walker and Jaleisa Shaffer get better with each championship competition," Sheffield said.
"The men's vault squad is back with Brock Hottel and Cody Bullard at full strength. Florian Lussy and Jack Beaumont look to have strong performances in the distance events. The men's and women's 4x100-meter relays are at the top of the performance lists and are each are supported by individual standouts, Darien Porter and Aneesa Scott."
