DENTON - Two new community outreach programs - a ticket-distribution effort and a literacy initiative - are being launched by the Mean Green Athletics Department, UNT announced Wednesday.
Eagle Wings allows fans and businesses to purchase Mean Green football tickets which will be distributed to Dallas-Fort Worth area military families and disadvantaged/at-risk youth. North Texas Athletics will work with local orphanages, family-care centers and military branches to distribute tickets for UNT's home games at Apogee Stadium.
"Our Eagle Wings program gives our fans and the community a special opportunity to make a significant impact with critical groups that need our Mean Green love and support," North Texas Vice President and Director of Athletics Wren Baker said. "Eagle Wings provides an opportunity to attend games to people who may not be able to attend without this support."
North Texas Reading Rewards is designed to increase literacy and emphasize the importance of reading among elementary and middle-school students.
"Reading and motivating young people is our goal with the Reading Rewards program, and we are thrilled to make a positive impact with local schools," Baker said.
