Fourth-largest gift in department history will support six areas impacting full student-athlete experience
DENTON – Silveria and Chester Hufstedler have made a historic $1.02 million gift to Mean Green Athletics, marking the fourth-largest cash gift in department history and providing transformational support across six key areas of the Mean Green student-athlete experience.
"The heart of our message is simple: Our goal is to model the kind of commitment that inspires others," said Silveria Hufstedler. "When we invest in UNT, we strengthen the legacy of a university that shaped us — and we want to help build the foundation for those who will follow and for many of us to continue to enjoy."
The gift will be distributed across the following funds and initiatives:
- Mean Green Scholarship Fund
- Athletic Center Expansion Project Phase II
- Green Lights Fund – Men's Basketball
- Green Lights Fund – Women's Basketball
- Football Discretionary Fund
- Academics Restricted Fund
The comprehensive investment reflects Silveria and Chester Hufstedler's commitment to the continued growth of Mean Green Athletics, supporting key elements of the department's mission of Building Champions and Preparing Leaders through the pursuit of perfection in academics, athletics, and life.
"This extraordinary gift from Silveria and Chester Hufstedler represents the kind of commitment that helps transform the full student-athlete experience at UNT," said Vice President and Director of Athletics Jared Mosley. "Their generosity will make a meaningful impact across our department, from supporting scholarships and academic success to advancing our facilities and providing our teams with the resources they need to compete at the highest level. We are incredibly grateful for their belief in our student-athletes and their investment in the future of Mean Green Athletics."
The Mean Green Scholarship Fund helps provide financial support for student-athlete scholarships, while the Athletic Center Expansion Project Phase II will advance the department's ongoing facility development efforts. Contributions to the men's and women's basketball Green Lights Funds will support the continued growth of both programs, while the Football Discretionary Fund and Academics Restricted Fund will provide additional resources for their respective areas.
Silveria's and Chester's investment comes as UNT Athletics continues to pursue sustained competitive excellence, enhanced academic outcomes and a comprehensive experience that prepares student-athletes for success beyond competition.
UNT Athletics is grateful to Silveria and Chester Hufstedler for their generosity and commitment to the Mean Green community. Their historic gift will help position UNT for continued growth while creating meaningful opportunities for student-athletes across the department.
