CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. -Â Three North Texas golfers were named to the Women's Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholars team on Monday, as sophomore Madison Lewis and freshmen Patricia Sinolungan and Audrey Tan both earned the honor, thanks to carrying a minimum of a 3.5 GPA, making it one of the most stringent academic teams in college athletics, according to a release.
A total of 1,097 women's collegiate golfers were honored with selection to the team.
"Madison is a very good student and expects to make all A's," UNT coach Michael Akers said. "I am happy she joined our team. You can't say enough about Audrey and Patricia. They were both 17 years old their entire freshman year. To see them impact us in both the classroom and on the golf course is incredible."
Lewis provided valuable depth for the UNT team after the team was reduced to just five players early in the spring season, while the freshman duo of Tan and Sinolungan excelled, especially for their young age. They finished neck and neck with the second- and third-best season scoring averages of 75.73 and 75.77, respectively.
"It is exciting to have three members of our team named to the WGCA All-American Scholar squad," Akers said. "We certainly place emphasis on the classroom in the recruiting process and once they are a part of our program."
