MANHATTAN, Kan. – The North Texas women's golf team tied its second-best round in program history with a 284 in the second of two rounds of the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational on Sunday and was the only team to go under par in the round.
The Mean Green now sit in second place heading into Monday's final round of play with three players – Patricia Sinolungan, Audrey Tan and Lauren Cox – all in the top 10 on the individual leaderboard entering the final round.
"Today was a rollercoaster ride," UNT head coach Michael Akers said. "The morning round was not good at all, and then we got it together in Round 2 and now are right where we want to be. Once again, we are in the final group and in a position to win the tournament. All the pressure is on K-State tomorrow. We will just try to play loose and hopefully come out on top."
Sinolungan is tied for second at even-par after firing nine birdies, including seven in the second round, while Tan is tied for sixth at 2-over and Cox is ninth at 3-over. Sinolungan's second-round 4-under 68 was the best round in the field and a new career best.
The Mean Green are paired with Kansas State, which leads North Texas by two strokes, for the final round. The Mean Green are four shots up on third-place New Mexico State and will look to win their first tournament championship since the 2010-11 season.
