DENTON – North Texas men's and women's cross country is set to kick off the 2019 season by hosting the annual Ken Garland Invitational Saturday at UNT Discovery Park. The women's 5K race is set to begin at 8:30 a.m. followed by the men's four-mile at 9 a.m.

The Mean Green will face UT Arlington and TCU on the men's side while SMU will be added to the field in the women's race.

Before the collegiate races begin, the meet will open with the Northwest High School Invitational at 7:30 a.m.

"With it being the first meet of the year, I'm excited to see our young runners get out on the course." Head Coach Kevin Williams said. "With some of our returners being banged up, it's exciting to get some young runners their first collegiate experience.

The annual meet is named in memory of former head track and field coach and North Texas Hall of Famer Ken Garland who also began the cross country program at Denton high school.
