2009-10 Championship Team To Be Honored

DENTON — The North Texas men's basketball team will honor its 2009-10 Sun Belt Conference championship team on Thursday when the Mean Green take on UT San Antonio at the Super Pit at 7 p.m.
Student-athletes, support staff and coaches, including head coach Johnny Jones, from the 2009-10 team will be recognized and honored at halftime of Thursday's game. Prior to the game, the team will be located between gates A and B of the Super Pit and will be available to meet with fans.
The 2009-10 team was the last Mean Green men's basketball team to reach the NCAA Tournament. Jones, who led UNT to five 20-win seasons and two Sun Belt titles during his 11 seasons at the helm of the Mean Green, is just one of two North Texas coaches to reach the NCAA Tournament. Jones won 190 games at North Texas. Along with winning the SBC crown, the 2009-10 team won a school-record 24 games and had a school and conference record four all-league honorees.
UNT beat Troy 66-63 in the 2010 SBC Tournament finals and earned a No. 15 seed in the NCAA Tournament where they'd face No. 2 Kansas State in Oklahoma City's Ford Center.
After Monday's 79-59 win over Rice, this year's Mean Green team has won six straight conference games. It's the first time a North Texas men's basketball team has done that since the 2009-10 team ended the regular season on a eight-game winning streak.
