Non-con results
UNT finished non-conference play at 3-2 in 2020. Dating to the 2015-16 season, the beginning of head coach Jalie Mitchell's tenure, the Mean Green are 32-21 in games occurring before the start of C-USA competition. The team posted a mark of 6-7 in pre-conference play last season.
Start of C-USA play
The Mean Green have earned victories in the past two Conference USA openers with a win versus Western Kentucky last season and a win at LA Tech in 2018-19. That year, the team compiled a 3-0 start for the first time in program history. Under head coach Jalie Mitchell, UNT is 3-2 all-time when beginning league play.
New Versus Old
The Mean Green welcomed back a solid core of contributors from last season, including leading scorers Destinee McDowell and N'Yah Boyd. Transfers Quincy Noble, Destiny Brooks, Rochelle Lee and Emma Villas-Gomis are eligible for competition for the Mean Green in 2020-21 along with freshmen Tommisha Lampkin and Maddie Cleary. To date, the group of returners is posting 48 points per contest, while the newbies contribute 35.
A Noble Start
Quincy Noble has already made a name for herself four games into her career with the Mean Green. The redshirt sophomore put up a career-high 30 points against Louisiana Dec. 4 and knocked down five 3-pointers, the fifth-highest total ever recorded by a North Texas player. Against UTA Dec. 19, she recorded game-highs of 22 points and nine rebounds and made the most of her North Texas debut with a team-high 17 points in a season-opening win over Tarleton Nov. 25. Noble ranks second in the league in accuracy from the 3-point line at over 45-percent and ranks fourth in 3s per game at 3.0 per contest.
Deep Improvement
The Mean Green struggled from the 3-point line last season by connecting on just 27.8 percent of their attempts, ranking them 300 of the 348 teams in NCAA Division I. So far in 2020-21, the team is hitting at a 38.7-percent clip to sit 21st in the nation and second in Conference USA.
