UNT Women In Tight Pack At Sugar Bowl
2/17/2020 7:59:00 PM | Women's Golf
NEW ORLEANS – The UNT women's golf team played two rounds on Monday to open up play at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate after rain postponed Sunday's scheduled opening round, and the Mean Green are in ninth place entering Tuesday's final round.
Sophomore Audrey Tan and senior Lauren Cox are tied for ninth place on the individual leaderboard at 2-under par after Tan shot a morning-round 69 before a 75 in the afternoon round, and Cox shot a 75 and a 69.
"Audrey had a great morning round, and Lauren had a great afternoon round," UNT head coach Michael Akers said. "Unfortunately, we did not have anything spectacular to go with those rounds. We are in good shape though and only need to play well in the final round to move up the leaderboard. Due to the extreme wet conditions of the golf course, we played lift, clean and place. That has a tendency to make the scores closer and not separate the field."
The Mean Green are within just two strokes of sixth-place Denver, four of fifth-place Michigan State and five shots of fourth-place Houston – all three of which are ranked teams.
Freshman Emilie Ricaud, who is competing as an individual, is tied for 29th at 2-over, and sophomore Katie Finley is tied for 33rd at 3-over par.
North Texas will be paired with SMU and Tulsa on Tuesday with all teams starting at 8 a.m., with a shotgun start.
