NEW ORLEANS – The North Texas women's golf team shot a 4-over 296 on Tuesday to close out play at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate in ninth place.
The Mean Green were led by sophomore Audrey Tan, who shot an even-par 73 on Tuesday to finish the tournament at 2-under par in a tie for 14th place. Senior Lauren Cox finished tied for 22nd at 1-over par. Freshman Emilie Ricaud competed as an individual and finished tied for 34th at 5-over par. After a rough 36 holes on Monday, freshman Marija Jucmane tied Tan for the best round of the day for the Mean Green with a 73.
The Mean Green, which entered the Sugar Bowl ranked No. 57, will have a quick turnaround as they resume competition on Monday for a two-day, three-round tournament at the ICON Invitational in The Woodlands, Texas.
"We did not play bad this week but need to play better against competition like this," UNT head coach Michael Akers said. "We were upset by a few teams so we need to do a better job saving shots. It is always amazing how one shot makes a big difference. It was good to see Marija bounce back in the final round. Audrey has really improved her mental game. Her improvement has been fun to watch. We have a short turnaround until we tee it up again at The Woodlands."
