Tennis Heads To Marshall

HUNTINGTON, West Virginia — The North Texas women's tennis teams is back on the road after sweeping its homestand this past weekend.
The Mean Green (7-2) take on Marshall on Friday at 3 p.m. CT. and then face FIU on Saturday for a neutral site competition. UNT has beaten the Thundering Heard in back-to-back seasons. They are 2-0 all-time versus Marshall. North Texas beat the Panthers last season in the Conference USA Championship quarterfinals. FIU was the defending champions last year.
"We have to continue seeking improvement," said head coach Sujay Lama. "This team has really embraced competing together. We know we have to bring our very best to be successful this weekend."
The Mean Green's two victories this past weekend were both against league opponents. They beat UTEP 7-0 on Sunday and Louisiana Tech 4-3 on Friday.
North Texas' early success has been fueled by its underclassmen performance and veteran leadership. The Mean Green have five newcomers and they've all made contributions to winning. The five newcomers combined to go 7-1 this past weekend in singles and junior Nidhi Surapaneni was a perfect 2-0 in singles.
Surapaneni had a come from behind victory against FIU in the conference tournament to clinch the 4-3 victory for UNT.
