Florian Lussey makes history with back-to-back NCAA appearances
A year after becoming just the third runner in North Texas cross country history to qualify for the NCAA Championships, senior Florian Lussy became the first runner in program history to qualify twice with his seventh place finish in a time of 30:22.1 at the South Central Regional Nov. 15, 2019, at Agri Park on the campus of the University of Arkansas.
Lussy, who earned All-Region honors for his perfomance, sat in 12th place at the 3.6K mark of the 10K race but improved to finish third among the four individuals to earn an automatic bid to Nationals.
"Florian was outstanding," head coach Kevin Williams said. "He has overcome so much this year in terms of injury, and I couldn't be more proud of him. Going to Nationals two years in a row is an amazing accomplishment."
At the NCAA Cross Country Championships held Nov. 23, 2019, at the Lavern Gibson Cross Country Course on the campus of Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana, Lussy placed 153rd overall in a time of 32:21.8.
"Florian had a solid race to finish out the season," head coach Williams said. "We as a program are very proud of him and the season that he had."
