Women's Golf Taking Huge Lead Into Final Round

ST. GEORGE, Utah – The North Texas women's golf team will take a commanding lead into the final round of the Entrada Classic at Snow Canyon Country Club after a dominant second round and a full day in the lead.
The Mean Green held a two-shot lead after the opening round on Monday before shooting a 5-under-par 283 in Round 2 and taking a 21-shot lead over second-place Iowa heading into the final round on Tuesday. The 283 was the program's lowest score for a single round since the 2016-17 season.
"I'm very pleased with our first day in Utah," UNT head coach Michael Akers said. "We played very smart golf. This course requires skill and intelligence. This team has an abundance of both. We will set our sights on shooting under par tomorrow and bringing home a victory."
Senior Lauren Cox and sophomore Patricia Sinolungan are tied atop the field at 3-under par entering the final 18 holes after both shot 69s in the second round. Two other UNT golfers, sophomore Audrey Tan and freshman Emilie Ricaud, are in the top 10 at 2-over and 4-over, respectively, and freshman Marija Jucmane, who is competing as an individual, is tied for 13th at 7-over.
Cox leads the field with nine birdies through two rounds, and Sinolungan is tied for second with eight.
"I'm not surprised Lauren and Patty are tied for first place," Akers said. "They work so hard and deserve every good thing that comes their way. Tomorrow should be fun."
The last time a UNT team won a tournament title was in 2010-11, when the Mean Green won four tournaments. The last time an individual from North Texas took first was the 2012-13 season when Georgina Mundy won the UALR Women's Golf Classic.
The Mean Green will conclude the tournament on Tuesday with a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start and will be paired with BYU and Iowa.
