Five Mean Green Set Six Track & Field Records

Aneesa Scott put her name in the record books twice in 2020. At the Ted Nelson Invitational hosted by Texas A&M Jan. 17, Scott’s time of 23.64 in the 200-meter dash was the fastest ever for the Mean Green and also set a meet record to capture first place. Scott outdid the previous record of 23.81 set by teammate Alia Holmes in 2019.

At week later at the Red Raider Invitational hosted by Texas Tech, Scott clocked a 53.86 in the 400-meter dash for third place to upset the 54.49 recorded by UNT’s Ciara Smith in 2011.

At the Conference USA Indoor Track & Field Championships hosted by UAB Feb. 23, Jaleisa Shaffer topped her previous shot put record set last season by nearly three feet with a toss of 15.50 meters to conclude in third.

Haley Walker improved upon her school record in weight throw at the 2020 Conference USA Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by UAB Feb. 22. Walker recorded a mark of 18.33 meters to earn fifth place and outdo her previous toss of 18.14 set Jan. 24 at the Red Raider Invite.
It was a tough, competitive day. It's huge to have athletes step up and improve their best performances in a championship environment.Sheffield

Bailey Ashmore broke her own school pole vault record at the Conference USA Indoor Track & Field Championships hosted by UAB Feb. 22. Ashmore vaulted 4.06 meters to best her previous mark of 3.88 set Jan. 17 at the Ted Nelson Invitational to capture second place.

Joseph Squire improved upon his school record in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 7.97 seconds to secure second place at the Ted Nelson Invite. Squire’s previous best occurred Jan. 25 of last year as he ran the event in 8.00 seconds at the Texas Tech Classic.
Joseph continues to mature as a high hurdler.Sheffield
