DENTON — The Mean Green women's tennis team turned in its fifth-straight year of a perfect score in the Academic Progress Rate announced by the NCAA Tuesday. The tennis program earned a perfect 1,000 in the multi-year score that collects data over a four-year period, beginning in the 2015-16 academic year and ending in the 2018-19 year.
Every North Texas program was well above the required 930 APR score, to avoid NCAA penalties. The tennis program was the only team to have a perfect score in both single year and multi-year data. The men's cross country team received a perfect 1,000 for the most recent single year (2018-19) and its multi-year score improved from 977 to 991, giving that program the largest multi-year jump of all the Mean Green programs.
The men's and women's track program both made substantial single-year jumps from last year, improving 37 points for the women's program and 26 points for the men. The men's basketball team also took a big jump in its single-year score, improving from a 964 in 2017-18 to 981 in 2018-19.
"I'm proud of the effort of our academic support staff and coaches, but especially the student-athletes who make it a priority to be successful in the classroom," Vice President and Director of Athletics Wren Baker said. "It will always be a focus of ours to improve each of our academic metrics as we continue to build champions and prepare leaders."
