North Texas Hosts Virtual Scrappys

DENTON - North Texas student-athletes were celebrated for their achievements in athletics, academics and community service during the fourth annual Scrappys ceremony Monday night, presented by Modern Woodmen Fraternal Financial.
The Scrappys, typically hosted amidst the glitz and glamour of a decorated ballroom, featuring interviews and photo booths along the green carpet, looked a little bit different this year. Current social distancing measures, put in place during the COVID-19 pandemic, prevented the crowd of 352 student-athletes, plus coaches and athletic staff, from gathering on the University of North Texas campus. Instead, the show premiered on the Mean Green Sports Facebook account emceed by Hank Dickenson.
The event was highlighted by the recognition of the Conference USA championship-winning performances by the Mean Green Soccer and Men's Basketball teams.
Mean Green Soccer claimed its 16th overall conference title by defeating Florida Atlantic 5-2 in the finals of the Conference USA Tournament on November 10, 2019. The match was played in front of a home crowd in Denton, and was the final match of the inaugural season at the new Soccer and Track & Field Stadium.
The North Texas Men's Basketball team claimed the 2019-20 Conference USA Regular Season Championship on March 1, 2020 in a 78-72 overtime thriller against Western Kentucky. It was the Mean Green Men's Basketball team's first regular season conference championship in 31 years.
Mean Green Athletics would like to give a special thanks to former UNT student-athlete Jordan Case for his support of this year's Scrappys through the Jordan L. Case Athletic Senior Awards Endowment.
