DENTON — North Texas men's basketball 2020 graduate Deng Geu has signed a professional with Horsens IC Basketball Club, which competes in Basketligaan, the top league in Denmark.
Geu grad transferred to UNT last season and brought championship experience to immediately make an impact for the Mean Green and lead them to their first league title in 31 years. The 6-foot-8 forward started every game for UNT and averaged 7.5 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. He led UNT in blocks and was second in rebounds. He recorded two double-doubles and had the second-highest field goal percentage on the team.
He twice scored 18 points, including against No. 15 Utah State.
Geu joins a Danish team that also has championship pedigree. HIC has won six Danish titles, two since 2015, and finished top two in the league every year over the last five seasons. Over the last five years they've compiled a .770 winning percentage. They are located in Horsens, Denmark, which is 120 miles from the capital city of Copenhagen.
Geu joins his Danish team with international experience as he's been playing for his home nation of Uganda the last few years. He competed for Uganda in the World Cup qualifier and averaged 13.3 points and 11.3 rebounds per game during the qualifier.
In a recent statement, HIC praised Geu's defensive skills.
"Deng has been picked for his defensive qualities," the club said. "His role will be bonding the HIC defense together."
