DENTON – North Texas women's basketball hosts their first pair of Conference USA games as UTSA comes to Denton Friday at 6:30 p.m. and Saturday at 3:30 p.m. inside The Super Pit.
About the Mean Green
North Texas swept the pair of contests at UAB last week to sit at 2-0 in Conference USA standings. Redshirt sophomore Quincy Noble leads the team in scoring at 19.9 points. Sophomore N'Yah Boyd averages 13.0 and dishes out team-best 4.1 assists. Redshirt senior Madison Townley posts 9.9 points along with a team-high 9.6 rebounds.

UTSA dropped their first pair of conference games versus Rice after going 2-3 in nonconference play. Adryana Quezada tallies a team-high 14.6 points and 11.0 rebounds per game, while Karrington Donald averages 10.6, and Yuliyana Valcheva adds 9.9. Anisha George continued her torrid run through the month of February, finishing with a career-high 26 points and 15 rebounds. George picked up her seventh double-double of the season just two minutes into the third quarter.
Townley Pulling 'Em Down
If there is a rebound to be grabbed, Madison Townley is your best bet. The redshirt senior recorded a career-high 21 boards in the win at UAB Jan. 1 for the fourth-highest total in program history and the top performance in Conference USA this year. Townley ranks fifth in C-USA with her 9.6 per contest and is fourth in offensive rebounds at 4.1.
Lee Shines At UAB
Rochelle Lee earned her first two career starts for North Texas in last week's UAB series and made the most of her time with averages of nine points, four rebounds, one block and one steal. In Saturday's win, the redshirt junior put up a career-high 14 points on 7-of-11 shooting.
Start of C-USA play
With the win at UAB Jan. 1, North Texas has now earned victories in the past three Conference USA openers. The Mean Green compiled a 3-0 Conference USA start for the first time in program history in 2018-19. The team has never gone 4-0 in C-USA. Under head coach Jalie Mitchell, UNT is 4-2 all-time when beginning league play.
A Noble Start
Quincy Noble has scored in double figures in every contest she has played at North Texas with a career-high 30 points coming at Louisiana Dec. 4. Against the Ragin' Cajuns, the redshirt sophomore knocked down five 3-pointers, the fifth-highest total ever recorded by a Mean Green player. Noble's 19.9 points per game ranks fourth in Conference USA, and she is second in both 3-pointers made per game (3.29) and 3-point percentage (46.9).
Lampkin Selected As Freshman Of The Week
DALLAS (Jan. 1, 2021) – Tommisha Lampkin of North Texas was voted as the Conference USA Freshman of the Week announced by the league office.
Lampkin provided an effective inside presence for North Texas in the two wins at UAB with averages of eight points and four rebounds. In Friday's game with 2:34 remaining, the freshman forward from Mansfield earned a trip to the line, grabbed her own miss and scored a decisive layup for a 71-63 Mean Green lead. Lampkin was nearly perfect from the field in both contests and earned five trips to the line along with a block.
Deep Improvement
The Mean Green struggled from the 3-point line last season by connecting on just 27.8 percent of their attempts, ranking them 300 of the 348 teams in NCAA Division I. So far in 2020-21, the team is hitting at a 37.3-percent clip to sit 34th in the nation and third in Conference USA.

UNT finished non-conference play at 3-2 in 2020. Dating to the 2015-16 season, the beginning of head coach Jalie Mitchell's tenure, the Mean Green are 32-21 in games occurring before the start of C-USA competition. The team posted a mark of 6-7 in pre-conference play last season.

North Texas put up 30 points in the opening quarter with Tommisha Lampkin giving the Mean Green the first a double-digit lead of the day at 21-9. A Rochelle Lee jumper gave UNT a 29-14 cushion with 1:29 to go before the Blazers closed with a 5-1 run.
Emma Villas-Gomis sank a layup for a 34-21 Mean Green advantage two minutes in the second quarter. N'Yah Boyd hit a pair from the line and a shot in the paint to keep UNT up, 45-33, with 3:06 remaining in the half. UAB finished strong with eight unanswered to close within 45-40.
