DENTON - The North Texas cross country team is beginning its postseason on Saturday when UNT travels to Concord, North Carolina - just outside of Charlotte - for the Conference USA Championship meet.
The men's 8K will begin at 8 a.m., followed by the women's 6K race at 9 a.m. Thirteen teams will contend on the women's side and 11 for the men. Charlotte, FIU, Florida Atlantic, Louisiana Tech, Marshall, Middle Tennessee, North Texas, Rice, UTEP, UTSA and WKU each have a men's and women's team, while Southern Miss and UAB have women's teams only.
"Cross country is about competing and making passes when it counts in contributing to the team's overall score," head coach Matt Layten said. "I think the strength of our program is our ability to compete, and we have two very capable groups that have taken a lot of steps over our first races of the year to do that well this weekend. Our races in Charlotte will be the time for us to take everything we've developed this season in order to start our championship season off strong."
The men finished fourth and the women eighth at the 2020 Conference USA Championships. The men are looking to repeat what they did in 2018 by winning C-USA men's title and Jack Beaumont ran to all-conference first-team honors and Alec Esposito landed a spot on the third team.

Results, photo galleries and award winners will be posted on the C-USA Cross Country Championship Central home page following the races and can be followed live here. Fans can also follow along for updates and more on Twitter @ConferenceUSA using the hashtags #CUSAXC and #TheCUSAWay.
