DENTON — The North Texas tennis team has signed Texas top ranked junior prep standout Olivia Halvorsen who hails from nearby Southlake.
Halvorsen, who is Canadian and will graduate from The Clariden School in Southlake, is currently one of the top ranked junior Canadians as well as Texans.
"We are very excited to have Olivia join our Mean Green family," said head coach Sujay Lama. "Olivia caught our eyes this summer at the UTR PTT event with her power game and results against college and professional players. She is tall, athletic and has all the tools for the modern game. We see huge potential in Olivia. Her best tennis is ahead of her."
Halvorsen, who stands at nearly 6-feet tall, took second-place at the U18 L3 USAT in Midland, Texas. She placed fourth-place playoff winner of PTT Dallas Women's 25k hard court and owns a 9+ UTR score.
"From the start of my recruitment, I saw UNT was a school of diversity and culture," Holvorsen said. "I know that this environment will be a place where I can grow exponentially. I'm beyond excited to be a part of such a hardworking and international team."
Holvorsen has taken all honors core courses and has a 4.4 weighted Grade Point Average. She's an honor roll member and earned the Distiquished Pride Award.
"Olivia is one of the top players in Texas and this surely is huge as we recruit the best from Texas," Lama added. "Her work ethic, passion for the game and aspirations to play the next level makes her a tremendous fit for our program. She is also a great student who will studying pre-med at UNT."
