Tan Leads Way In Opening Day Of ICON

HUMBLE, Texas - The UNT women's golf team opened its spring schedule on Monday with two rounds at the ICON Invitational at the Golf Club of Houston and after the first 36 holes, the Mean Green are in 10th place at 9-over par.
Junior Audrey Tan led the way for the Mean Green on Day 1, shooting a 70-71 to sit at 3-under heading into Tuesday's final round and tied for 10th place. Senior Lauren Cox is tied for 24th at 1-over par after shooting 71-74. Tan is tied for third in the field in Par 5 scoring after two rounds at 3-under, and she and Cox each tallied seven birdies through the first two rounds.
"We did not play bad today, but when you play against top-25 teams, you cannot make mistakes," UNT head coach Michael Akers said. "We are in a position to move up the leaderboard and we hope to break par (288) tomorrow. I'm very proud of Audrey. She changed her ball and her driver a few weeks ago, which is not easy to do. We just need to be consistent throughout the lineup."
The Mean Green will be paired Tuesday with SMU and Texas State, as all teams will begin with a shotgun start at 8 a.m.
