SAN ANTONIO - The North Texas women's golf team had the third-best round of the day in the final round of the Maryb S. Kauth Invitational on Wednesday at San Antonio Country Club, but the Mean Green dropped one spot on the leaderboard and finished fourth in the field after a day that featured tough conditions and a lot of high scores across the entire field.
UNT finished the tournament at 40-over par, one shot back of third-place Texas State and four back of runner-up UT San Antonio.
The best individual round of the day for the No. 29 Mean Green came from sophomore Emilie Ricaud, who shot a 1-over 73, but for the entire tournament, they were led by junior Katie Finley, who finished tied for eighth at 9-over par after she entered the final round in second place at 2-over par. The Mean Green had three more top-20 finishes in Patricia Sinolungan (T14), Audrey Tan (T17) and Lauren Cox, who finished 20th.
"I am very disappointed with our finish," UNT head coach Michael Akers said. "Tech played great today and deserved to win, but we should be able to play mediocre and finish runner-up. We will regroup and focus on Tucson."
The Mean Green will return to competition March 20-22 at the MountainView Collegiate in Tucson, Arizona.
