AUSTIN, Texas – North Texas track and field will compete in the 93rd Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays over three days running from Thursday, March 25, through Saturday, March 27 at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
This year's event will be an abbreviated schedule and not include high school teams or individual student-athletes. The traditional four-day meet will be reduced to three days with events in the University, College and Invitational Divisions. Longhorn Network will once again broadcast extensive coverage of this year's meet.
"Texas Relays has always a jewel in the eyes of track and field athletes and fans alike," director of track and field Carl Sheffield said. "Even without the high schools present it should still be a pretty good competition. We have a lot of Texas kids that may have competed there or wished they could have competed there in high school. It's a big deal to compete at one of the biggest relays meet in the country."
The 2021 Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays get underway with the collegiate decathlon and heptathlon on Thursday, March 25. Thursday's action will highlight field events, sprints and the Distance Carnival to close out the night. The distance portion of Day One will consist of the 1,500 meters, 5,000 meters, 10,000 meters, 3,000-meter steeplechase and the Jerry Thompson Mile.
Friday's schedule is led off by the second day of multis competition in the decathlon and heptathlon at Myers Stadium, followed by a slew of field events and then a sprints circuit in the afternoon and early evening. The sprints session will include the 100-meter dash, hurdles competition, 4x100-meter relay and 4x400-meter relays in the University/College division.
Saturday's schedule begins with field competition in the discus at 10 a.m. and continues all throughout Myers Stadium during the day. The 2021 Texas Relays are scheduled to conclude with the Sanya Richards-Ross and Cleburne Price Jr. 4x400-meter relays in the evening.
"It's still pretty early in the season for us. Our goals are to continue to sharpen and refine our race models and strategy. Our general fitness is good. We just need to get back to racing and get race sharp. We really target the meets in April for reaching qualifying standards for the championship season in May and June. This week will be another opportunity to run our relay teams and get into some individual races," Sheffield said.
