AUSTIN – Jaleisa Shaffer won the discus open division and also took fifth in the shot put premier division on the second and final day of the Michael Johnson Invitational hosted by Baylor at Clyde Hart Track & Field Stadium Saturday.
Kendal Maples was second in the shot put open division with a mark of 15.15 meters. Karl Sralla finished fourth in the discus open division with a throw of 52.19 meters.
Chris Samaniego threw a personal record 16.66 meters in the shot put premier division for sixth place. Joseph Squire was seventh in the 110-meter hurdles as was Haley Walker in the discus premier division with a mark of 45.39 meters. Bailey Ashmore tied for eighth in the pole vault premier division with a height of 3.81 meters.
"Not such a good second day," director of track and field Carl Sheffield said. "The off-and-on rain and cold temps may have gotten to some people. The challenges should help us grow mentally. The throwers did shine during the day. We got through the meat of our outdoor season. We have a couple more competitions to identify our conference team and prepare for the champion portion of our season."
The Mean Green turn around to compete in the Oliver Jackson Twilight Meet at Abilene Christian Wednesday.
