Cross Country: A Journey of a Lifetime

DENTON – The 2021 North Texas cross country season does not officially begin for over another month, but team bonding preparations have begun for 11 of the Mean Green as they are embarking on their very own trek across the nation this summer to train and canvas eight states while traveling nearly 3,000 miles.
Jack Beaumont and Alec Esposito have taken the lead on this 18-day adventure that begins July 16 and concludes August 3.
"We've got it all mapped out. We looked at all the bike trails and parks everywhere around, so we've got a schedule of when we're going to run. It's pretty organized for guys that are pretty disorganized," Beaumont admitted.
Joining Beaumont and Esposito will be Mason Garner, Spencer Boykin, Logan Mitchell, Caleb Bouchard, Luke Canon, Victor Neiva, Braden Lange, Matthew Morgan and Katie Booth.
"We have been talking about this trip since my freshman year. It's going to be a good trip. We all come back and regroup in August, so this will be good to start training in July together. I think it'll be good for us this season because then we won't have that whole month of getting back and used to training," Beaumont said.
The four-vehicle caravan will hit up some enjoyable destinations along the way. The first stopover is in Hot Springs, Arkansas, followed by Tennessee with stays in Nashville and the Smoky Mountains. Louisville, Kentucky, is next on the itinerary before the Ozarks in Missouri and finally Stillwater, Oklahoma.
"We're going run in Stillwater because we will compete against them (Oklahoma State) on that cross course. It's really nice so we'll train on there for a bit, and then we'll get back to the end of the trip."
The stops are intentional and as budget friendly as a group of college students could arrange. The house in Hot Springs is courtesy of Mitchell's family, the cabin in the Smoky Mountains is owned by the Lange's, and Bouchard's parents live in Louisville. The remainder of the nights will be spent in different Airbnbs.
"The Airbnbs have to be pretty big," Beaumont explained. "People rent out ginormous houses, and you don't have to spend much. The one in Missouri is super nice, and it's got this one room like a dome that looks out onto the lakes."
We will be following Beaumont and the Mean Green cross country journey throughout the next few weeks on www.meangreensports.com.
