8/26/2021 2:05:00 PM | Women's Volleyball
After a short 148-day offseason, North Texas volleyball returns to the court to open their 2021 campaign with a trio of contests this weekend in the North Texas Invite.
Â
All three matches will be broadcast by C-USA TV.
Â
The Mean Green are led by Andrew Palileo, who is entering his ninth season as the head coach of the program. He has quickly become one of the most successful head coaches in program history. His 148 wins in his time with North Texas are the most by any coach in Mean Green history. He holds a 6-2 record in season openers, and his teams are 7-1 in home openers.
Â
Rhett Robinson returns as the Mean Green's kills leader, posting 352 last season. Kaliegh Skopal led North Texas in assists last season with 785.
Â
UNT will face McNeese State, South Dakota State, and Grambling State over a span of two days in the North Texas Invite.Â
Â
The Mean Green are 9-11 all-time against the Cowgirls, with their last matchup coming in 2008. That game will get underway at 11 a.m. on Friday. The second game takes place at 7 p.m. against the Jackrabbits, just the second meeting all-time between the two programs and the first since 2007, which was a loss for the Mean Green. North Texas concludes the tournament Saturday at 1 p.m. against the Tigers. The Mean Green are 7-1 all-time against Grambling, with the last matchup also coming in 2007.
Â
North Texas has been dominant at the North Texas Volleyball Center since Palileo arrived in 2013, sporting an 83-32 record in the last eight seasons, the third-best home record in all of Conference USA in that time frame.
