UNT Draws With Hawai'i, 0-0

HONOLULU, Hawai'i — After 110 minutes, the North Texas soccer team ended its battle with Hawai'i and finished with a scoreless draw in Honolulu.
A match that didn't begin until 12:45 a.m. CT — 7:45 p.m. HT — and ended at 3:12 a.m. CT Saturday morning, featured 29 combined fouls and seven shots on goal by the Mean Green (RV). UNT (2-0-1) had four shots on goal in the 20-minute overtime period but the Rainbow Warriors' keeper Lauren Marquez brought her best as she stopped every North Texas attempt.
Despite the shots not going in, the Mean Green defense prevented Hawai'i (1-0-1) from even getting a shot on target as they never had many opportunities other than four corner kicks throughout the match.
"Well we ran into a hot goalkeeper tonight," said head coach John Hedlund. "She made outstanding saves all night including stopping a PK that kept her team in the game. I'm very proud of my defense, we did not give them much and got the shutout
which is always important especially on the road. We will regroup, rest up and get ready for Sunday."
UNT's Taylor Tufts took a match-best three shots and put all on target but were all denied by the UH goalkeeper.
The Mean Green are back in action Sunday as they face Idaho State in Honolulu. Sunday's match will be played at 7:30 p.m. CT.
