North Texas Welcomes Marshall to the Super Pit
1/12/2022 5:00:00 PM | Women's Basketball
DENTON, Texas – The North Texas women's basketball team is set to host the Marshall Thundering Herd on Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. (CT). The game will broadcast on ESPN+ and Zac Babb will have the call on KNTU 88.1 FM.
Marshall comes to Denton red hot. The Thundering Herd have won its last five games by an average of 20.5 points per contest. They are led by the most prolific scorer in the conference in Savannah Wheeler. Wheeler was an All-Conference selection in the preseason and has lived up to the hype.
The Mean Green come into this game sputtering a bit, losers of its last three. To snap the skid, UNT will have to get back to its winning ways by lighting up the scoreboard and rebounding. Aly Gamez and Quincy Noble have carried the team offensively as of late. Gamez has scored in double figures in seven out of the last eight contests. Preseason C-USA Player of the Year, Noble has registered 10+ points in all but one game this season. Madison Townley put together one of her best games of the season at Middle Tennessee, notching her first double-double of the year.
North Texas will finish its first C-USA homestand when they host Western Kentucky on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. (CT) in the Super Pit. That game will also broadcast on ESPN+.
QUOTING HEAD COACH JALIE MITCHELL
"Marshall is well balanced from a scoring standpoint; they have a lot of different threats, but Wheeler has been first and foremost since she's been there. She's a threat to score obviously, so we have to make sure we limit her effectiveness. For us, rebounding has been a key all season. I would like to see us get back to the numbers we had earlier in the season."
