Joins UNT staff after 13 years at Texas Tech
DENTON, Texas – Veteran administrator Suzanne Dickenson has joined UNT's staff as its new Senior Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Academic Services, Vice President and Director of Athletics Wren Baker announced Tuesday.
"We are thrilled to add someone of Suzanne's caliber and credentials to lead our student-athlete academic services department," Baker said. "She has a proven track record of mentorship and academic success, and I am confident she will further our mission of Building Champions and Preparing Leaders in the years to come."
Dickenson comes to UNT following a 13-year tenure at Texas Tech where she most recently served as Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Services for the Red Raiders. In her role, she assisted in the overall management of the academic services department, including supervision of the learning assistance program, direction of post-graduate internships, and mentorships of athletic academic advisors.
She was also a member of the Texas Tech Athletics Senior Leadership team, served as a secondary sport supervisor, and was the direct liaison to the NCAA champion men's track and field program.
"I am beyond excited to join an already established athletic department that values and celebrates academic success with their student-athletes," Dickenson said. "We will continue to provide high-level services that will support our department's mission of Building Champions and Preparing Leaders."
Dickenson originally began her career at Texas Tech as Senior Athletic Academic Advisor in 2008, was promoted to Assistant Director of Athletic Academic Services in 2012 and was promoted again to Director of Athletic Academic Services in 2017. She was elevated to the role of Assistant AD in 2019.
Following a standout career on the track, she entered athletics administration in 2006 as Director of Athletic Academic Services at her alma mater Abilene Christian. She had previously served as an assistant track coach for the Wildcats from 2001-06, a period that included nine team national championships.
As a student-athlete at ACU, Dickenson helped the Wildcats win four national championships from 1998-99. She later ran professionally and competed around the world. Dickenson was a four-time runner up at the NCAA Division II Championships in the 100-meter hurdles and a five-time All-American from 1998-99.
She earned both bachelor's (1999) and a master's (2001) degrees from ACU.
