Men’s team places 29th, while women’s squad takes 34th.
DENTON, Texas – Mason Garner ran a career-best time to lead the men's team, and Miranda Vreeland set the pace for the women's team to highlight North Texas cross country Saturday at the Arturo Barrios Invitational in Bryan-College Station, Texas.
Â
"I thought we had a good showing and executed the individual race plans well," UNT cross country coach Erik Stevens said.
Â
Garner clocked a personal-best 8K time of 25:23.2 to place 105th, followed by Luke Canon in 158th at 25:51.6, Cade McAndrew in 194th at 26:22.0, Jesus Escamilla-Camargo in 215th at 26:32.7, and Spencer Boykin in 261st at 27:12.3.
Â
"The guys are feeling good coming off of today and headed into conference," Stevens said. "It was a nice PB for Mason up front as our number 1 today. We learned a few things, seeing how we all worked the back half of the race."
Â
Vreeland led the women's team in 145th with a 6K time of 23:07.1, while Tiblets Abreha took 243rd at 24:32.8, Amy Pritchard placed 290th with a time of 25:52.1, Shannon Cook finished 294th at 26:07.4, and Katie Booth took 308th at 27:11.6.
Â
"We had two big PRs on the ladies' side with Miranda as our 1 and Tiblets our number 2," Stevens said. "The ladies are coming back from some physical setbacks, so I was happy to see the overall performance."
Â
Next up, the Mean Green will host the Conference USA Championships in Denton, Texas, on Oct. 29.
