
Volleyball Win in Senior Night Sweep

DENTON, Texas – UNT volleyball claimed a 3-0 sweep of UAB on Thursday at the North Texas Volleyball Center. The victory marks the ninth three-set win of the season, the most since 2019.
The Mean Green (14-14, 8-5) finished its home schedule with the victory over the Blazers (12-13, 7-6) and recorded its fourth consecutive win in Denton, 25-19, 25-21, 25-17. North Texas honored seniors Aleeyah Galdeira, Taylor Litteken, Avery McCrillis and Funmi Oladapo in a post-match ceremony.
"Our seniors are a big part of everything that we do," head coach Kristee Porter said. "We depend on their leadership and we are really blessed to have them as a part of our team."
Galdeira collected a match-high mark of eight digs to push her season total to 465. Her season tally moves her into seventh place in single season history for North Texas, passing Jill Ruskowski.
Sh'Diamond Holly recorded six blocks to elevate into the top five in program history with 137 total blocks for the season.
Treyaunna Rush led the match with 14 kills on 29 attacks for a .310 hitting percentage, adding two blocks and two digs.
Set 1: The two teams matched one another point for point before a pair of four-point rallies gave UNT a 15-11 lead at the midway point of set one. North Texas would widen the gap to 20-14 with a three-point run in which Litteken collected a kill and a combination block with Truli Levy. The Mean Green maintained its lead through the remainder of the frame, winning the set 25-19.
Set 2: Level at 7-7, North Texas found its groove with an 8-3 rush including a pair of kills from Andrea Owens for a 15-10 advantage. Despite the Blazers drawing the set within a point at 21-20, UNT would close on a 4-1 run to win the second set 25-21 and take a commanding two-set lead.
Set 3: A pair of kills from Holly along with an ace from McCrillis gave the home side an early edge but UAB would regain the lead at 5-4. The Mean Green quickly countered with a 5-1 run to take a three-point lead at 9-6. A pair of four-point runs would open the UNT lead to 21-13 late in the set. North Texas would close on a 3-1 rally which was punctuated with a Ceci Harness match-winning ace.
