Moore and Noble score in double figures in the loss
DENTON, Texas (Nov. 16, 2022) – The North Texas women's basketball program was handed its first loss of the 2022-23 season Thursday, falling 80-49 inside the Super Pit against SFA.
The Mean Green were led offensively by Jaaucklyn Moore who finished with 17 points but were outscored 55-16 across the second and third quarters in the loss.
Senior Quincy Noble joined Moore in double figures with 12 points as UNT falls to 1-1 on the young season.
North Texas started the game strong, jumping ahead 7-4 early on a 3-pointer from Noble and found themselves down 13-12 at the end of the first quarter.
SFA stepped on the gas in the second, however, using a 25-5 run over the first eight minutes of the quarter to take a 38-17 lead. The Ladyjacks went into the break on top 43-21.
The deficit for the Mean Green swelled to as many as 40 with UNT trailing 68-28 at the end of the third.
UNT outscored SFA 21-12 in the fourth to cut the final score to 80-49.
Quoting Coach Mitchell
"We didn't handle the press well for the first three quarters. Way too many turnovers on the offensive end. I think we got a lot more movement and understanding in that last quarter. It's frustrating that it took that long, but at the same time I think it was a huge learning lesson for us. I think its on all of us to make all the necessary changes and adjustments before going to Wichita Saturday."
Up Next
The Mean Green will travel on the road for the first time this season Saturday when they head to Wichita, Kansas to take on Wichita State at 2:00 PM.
