
Galdeira Passes Career Milestone in Road Loss

HOUSTON – Aleeyah Galdeira moved into sole possession of fourth place on the North Texas career digs list in a 3-0 defeat versus No. 21 Rice on Friday. Galdeira recorded nine digs in the match to elevate her four-year total to 1,286, passing former All-American Corina Marginas (2000-03).
The Mean Green (12-14, 6-5) lost to the nationally ranked Owls (21-2, 11-0) in three sets, 17-25, 21-25, 18-25.
Aryn Johnson led the match with 12 kills and 31 attacks and added five digs. Opposite Treyaunna Rush also tallied double-digit kills, ending with 10 finishes, three digs and a block.
Conference USA blocks leader Sh'Diamond Holly finished with a match-high mark of four denials and a pair of kills. Ceci Harness collected 22 assists which marks her 13th consecutive match with 20 or more helpers. Alexa Washington dropped two aces while accumulating eight digs and seven assists.
Set 1: UNT opened the match with a strong display with a five-point rally which included consecutive service points from Washington. The Mean Green extended its lead to 12-6 as Holly collected two block assists, teaming up with Avery McCrillis and Truli Levy, respectively. Rice would fight back to level the score at a dozen points per side before the teams began swapping points. The Owls would pull ahead late to take the first set 25-17.
Set 2: The Mean Green rebounded in the second frame to jump out to a 6-3 advantage with McCrillis collecting two points via a kill and an ace. Despite the home team drawing even, North Texas would intensify its pressure and put together a 7-3 run with bench spark plug Addison Corley slamming a pair of kills. Johnson would keep Rice on its heels and open a 17-12 UNT lead with two kills at the midway point of the frame. The Owls displayed its resolve and took the lead until a 3-1 rally tipped the scales in favor of North Texas for a 20-19 edge. Rice would fend off the charge and win the frame at 25-21.
Set 3: North Texas again found itself in an advantageous position with a 3-1 lead early in the third with Rush collecting the initial two kills. UNT traded points with the No. 21 team in the nation throughout the set which included 14 ties and five lead changes. With her seventh kill of the night, Rush leveled the set at 16-16. The home team would go on to close out the final set 25-18 and sweep the match.
Up Next: UNT is set for a C-USA meeting with Middle Tennessee (15-9, 4-6) on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Denton. The match will be streamed live on ESPN+.
