
Volleyball Clinches C-USA Tournament Berth in Sweep

DENTON, Texas – North Texas volleyball collected a 3-0 victory over Middle Tennessee at home on Sunday. The win clinched a Conference USA tournament berth for the Mean Green and is the first sweep against the Blue Raiders since 2018.
North Texas (13-14, 7-5) tallied its third consecutive home win in the three-set contest with Middle Tennessee (15-11, 4-8), 25-21, 28-26, 25-23.
Treyaunna Rush recorded 20 kills on 37 attacks for a .405 hitting percentage, adding three blocks. Sunday's performance marked the third match in which Rush accumulated 20 or more kills, the first since setting her career high of 26 finishes on Sept. 2 versus Providence.
UNT finished with nine aces, tied for the second-best team total of the season, led by senior Avery McCrillis with three. McCrillis has 15 points from the service line in the last eight contests.
Set 1: The visitors took a lead early in the opening frame before a four-point run by the Mean Green leveled the score at 9-9 with Aryn Johnson recording a kill and an ace. UNT gained control midway through the set with an 8-1 rally starring Sh'Diamond Holly and Rush, each recording a pair of kills, to take an 18-15 edge. North Texas would hold its lead and take the first set 25-21.
Set 2: Facing a 14-2 deficit, head coach Kristee Porter had exhausted both timeouts with the set appearing all but lost. Her team responded with an outburst of scoring, rallying with an 18-4 wave which included a 9-1 run and a 7-1 run to take the lead at 20-18. The Mean Green tallied nine kills, three blocks and three aces in the barrage, led by Truli Levy with three kills and a solo block. The work was not finished as the opposition countered and pushed the frame to set point in its favor before a three-point run would seal the set for UNT, 28-26.
Set 3: The Mean Green were charged with another comeback in the third, trailing 13-7. Rush led her team on a 9-1 rally in which she had three kills and a solo block to take the lead 16-14. North Texas was able to retain the lead throughout the remainder of the frame and go on to win 25-23 with Rush tallying the final kill.
